Deviate by Tracy Clark Review

Deviate (Light Key, #2)
Release date: March 3, 2015
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Series: The Light Key Trilogy #2

Tormented after a daring escape, Cora Sandoval must find a way to stop the Arrazi from murdering innocent people and from violating, using, and killing the Scintilla for their powers. She must also accept one bitter betrayal: Finn Doyle—the Irish boy who has both a piece of Cora's heart and soul—is Arrazi...

On the verge of extinction and sought by those who would either consume or destroy them, Cora and the remaining Scintilla survivors must solve the mystery of The Light Key. If they fail, the truth will stay buried forever and mankind will pay the ultimate price.

No longer will she hide.

No longer will her loved ones be hunted.

And she will have her vengeance...even if she shatters her heart in the process.

My Rating: 3 Roses

A good sequel, though not quite as good as the first, Deviate was an enjoyable YA read. I had high hopes for it, considering I liked the first book so much, and, while it didn't meet them all, I did like this book.

Miss Truelove Beckons by Donna Lea Simpson Review

Miss Truelove Beckons
Release date: February 9, 2015
Genre: Historical (Regency) Romance

From the author of The Rogue’s Folly comes a Regency romance celebrating the witty and romantic world that fans of Georgette Heyer have fallen in love with.

When Truelove Becket’s betrothed went missing in a naval battle, she vowed never to marry unless she found someone she loved as much. In the seven years since then, the quiet vicar’s daughter has lived a simple and contented life helping the poor people of her village. But now another man has asked for her hand in marriage and, unsure if she is ready to commit to him, she agrees to accompany her beautiful cousin Arabella on a trip to visit friends so she can take time to think it over.

Viscount Drake cut a dashing figure when he returned from war to a hero’s welcome, but the Battle of Waterloo left him a shattered and haunted man. As his dreams are invaded by the terrors of war he becomes a sleepless shell of a man, and as his torment grows he begins to wonder if marriage to the lovely Arabella will help restore him again. But as Arabella coquettishly flirts to secure Drake’s hand and his riches, it is the pretty and practical True he turns to for solace.

With the weight of her marriage proposal bearing down on her, True finds herself irresistibly attracted to Drake’s quiet dignity and genuine distress, just as he finds himself drawn to her honest nature and soothing compassion. When a spark of passion ignites between these two who have both lost so much to war, they will have to confront their biggest fears—and everyone else’s plans for their futures—to discover if love can truly cure all ills.

My Rating: 5 Roses

A truly sweet and charming romance, Miss Truelove Beckons was a delightful historical romance. I really liked this book. It was a wonderfully romantic and enjoyable read.

In the next legs of the race, across the ocean and over mountains, Tella will face frostbite, sharks, avalanche, and twisted new rules in the race.

Yet there was a time when she'd risked everything for a black-eyed gypsy who left her brokenhearted. Now he stands before her—dark, virile, and ready to escort her on a journey to find the truth about her heritage.

Death Marked by Leah Cypess Review @LeahCypess @harperteen

Death Marked (Death Sworn, #2)
Release date: March 3, 2015
Publisher: Greenwillow Books
Genre: YA Fantasy Romance
Series: Death Sworn #2

A young sorceress’s entire life has been shaped to destroy the empire controlling her world. But if everything she knows is a lie, will she even want to fulfill her destiny? The sequel to Death Sworn is just as full of magic and surprising revelations, and will thrill fans of Leigh Bardugo and Robin LaFevers.

At seventeen, Ileni lost her magical power and was exiled to the hidden caves of the assassins. She never thought she would survive long. But she discovered she was always meant to end up, powerless, in the caves as part of an elder sorcerer’s plan to destroy the evil Empire they'd battled so long. Except that Ileni is not an assassin, and she doesn't want to be a weapon. And, after everything, she’s not even sure she knows the truth. Now, at the very heart of the Empire—its academy for sorcerers—the truth is what she seeks. What she finds challenges every belief she holds dear—and it threatens her fledgling romance with the young master of assassins.

Leah Cypess spins an intricate and beautiful conclusion to Ileni's story. In the end, it may not be the epic decisions that bring down an empire, but the small ones that pierce the heart.

My Rating: 3.5 Roses

A great sequel full of secrets and unexpected twists, Death Marked was an enjoyable YA read. It wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped it would be, but I still really liked it.

Waiting for April by @JaimeLoren Review @momentumbooks

Waiting for April
Release date: February 12, 2015
Publisher: Momentum
Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance

April Fletcher has died nineteen times... but she doesn't know it.

As far as April is concerned, she's just a normal seventeen-year-old, looking forward to spending spring break with her friends and going to college in the fall. April doesn't know she has never lived past her eighteenth birthday, nor does she realize that Scott Parker, her best friend, is actually her childhood sweetheart and fiancé from her very first life.

For nineteen-year-old Scott Parker, spending quality time with his soul mate has proved difficult ever since her tragic death in 1729. Since then he has lost her an additional eighteen times—each of her deaths more devastating than the last, and each of her births wiping the slate of her memory clean. Unable to save her but unwilling to give up, Scott has to hide the fact he's immortal—and will be until April confesses her love again.

But this time, things have changed. April has denied her feelings for him, is dating someone else, and with her eighteenth birthday fast approaching, their friendship is falling to pieces. Fearing their souls are irrevocably drifting apart, Scott must race against the clock to win her heart and save her life.

Or risk losing her forever.

My Rating: 5 Roses

The best compliment I can give a book was that it was different and unique enough to surprise me. Waiting for April was able to do just that. Beautifully romantic, packed with secrets and twists, this book was brilliant. It took the used-before concept on reincarnation and made it into a new story that had me absorbed from page 1. I absolutely loved this book.

A Sinful Deception by Isabella Bradford Review @2nerdyhistgirls @RomanceatRandom

A Sinful Deception (Breconridge Brothers, #2)
Release date: February 24, 2015
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Genre: Historical (Georgian) Romance
Series: Breconridge Brothers #2

For fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries: the seductively charming second historical romance in Isabella Bradford's Breconridge Brothers trilogy.

Lord Geoffrey Fitzroy leads a charmed existence. As the second son of the Duke of Breconridge, he has none of the responsibilities of his older brother and all of the advantages, leaving handsome Geoffrey free to enjoy his rakish pursuits. And pursue them he does, leaving hearts fluttering all over London. But one night, at a ball teeming with high society's most sought-after beauties, only one truly intrigues him: the regal, aloof, and mysterious Miss Serena Palmer.

Magnificently dressed and wearing jewels befitting a queen, the lady is considered the prize of the season, a noble-born heiress raised in India. But even as Geoffrey's fascination grows, Serena deftly deflects his curiosity—and with good reason: Serena's exotic past contains a perilous secret that could destroy her. Yet her plan to live in safe solitude is thwarted by her hungry heart, and soon Geoffrey's passionate seduction finds her blissfully bed—and wed. Will her deception destroy her chance at happiness as Geoffrey's wife? Or will the devotion of her new husband reveal the only truth worth embracing: her undying love?

A Sinful Deception was a delightful and truly enjoyable historical romance. Romantic, emotional, with a few secrets in store, this book was wonderful and I really liked it.
