Invaded Release Blitz: Review + Giveaway! @DisneyHyperion @Melissa_Landers

Welcome to my post for the Invaded release blitz! I have a review coming up, as well as a giveaway for a $25 gift card and a swag pack. But, first, allow me to introduce the book:

Invaded (Alienated, #2)
Release date: February 3, 2015
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Romance
Series: Alienated #2

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

Note from the Author:
Hey, fiction lovers. I’m Melissa Landers, author of the Alienated series (YA sci-fi from Disney-Hyperion), and today I’m bouncing with excitement because THE SEQUEL IS FINALLY HERE!

It’s been a year since we left Aelyx and Cara onboard the intergalactic transport, and INVADED begins with an emotional goodbye as they part ways—Aelyx returning to Earth to salvage the alliance, and Cara continuing to L’eihr to serve out her part of the student exchange. While they’re apart, our star-crossed lovers will face assassination attempts, betrayal, crippling self-doubt, and a sadistic alien Phys Ed class. (Because there’s no escaping PE, even in another galaxy.) When Aelyx and Cara finally reunite…well, let’s just say it’s combustive. ;-)

What do reviewers think? I’m glad you asked!

“Readers will love the seamless blend of suspense, humor, and romance set against an interstellar landscape. Dual narratives and a tightly plotted mystery keep the suspense running high, and the chemistry between Aelyx and Cara smolders.” –Booklist

“Excellent character development and integration between modern reality and science fiction. Teens will be rooting for the galactic couple while enjoying the action and suspense that runs through the two volumes.” –School Library Journal

“The protagonists' forced separation gives greater depth to their romance. Each learns to turn a critical eye upon the flaws of their native societies while confronting genuine obstacles to a future together. These complications only underscore the growing sense of menace that propels the narrative to an action-packed climax.” –Kirkus

I hope you’ll make tracks to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of INVADED!
My Rating: 5 Roses

To say this was a brilliant sequel would be an understatement. With the stakes upped, the romance strained to the brink, and more secrets than I could have ever expected, Invaded was a true thrill-ride of a read. It was a sequel that I even better than the first and I absolutely loved it!

Cara was definitely pushed farther than she had been before in this book. In book 1, though she faced many opponents, she was at home among humans. In this book, she was thrown among aliens who didn't like her one bit and weren't afraid to show it. It was a test of her strength and she certainly proved herself. She kept going, no matter how discouraging the clones were, determined to help forge the all-important alliance. Even though she had her moments of doubt, she never gave up. I already liked her in book 1 and, after this book, I thought she was a total badass.

Aelyx had his own problems as well, not the least of which were several assassination attempts. Despite his own trials, like Cara, he refused to give in, both for the sake of the alliance and, more importantly, so that he could be with Cara again. We already knew he was strong and smart but, in this book, he really proved it. And, I still absolutely adored him.

The romance was lovely. Despite being apart, Cara and Aelyx were never far from each other's thoughts. Their relationship was definitely put under a lot of pressures, both because of the distance and because of the stress each was under. After everything they went through, I'm still hoping that they get a happy ending.

The secondary character were great in this book as well, most notably Syrine, David, and Troy. Syrine's development was great and, despite having wanted to punch her in book 1, I found myself liking her after this book. David was a new character and he was wonderful. Troy, Cara's brother, was adorable. I loved their teasing relationship and how, in the end, Troy was reluctantly caring and definitely protective over his sister. Always great to have minor characters that manage to shine as well.

The plot was fantastic and kept me hooked from page 1. There were so many secrets, unexpected twists, and several revelations that changed the game on a far greater scale than I expected. This book is definitely not predictable. I loved the story and the ending has me anxious to get my hands on the next book. Can't wait to find out what happens next!

Invaded was an absolutely fantastic, truly brilliant YA read that I loved. With its adorable romance, unexpected twists, and surprising secrets, this book was top-notch, a sequel that definitely doesn't disappoint and exceeded all my expectations. Fans of book 1, you will love this sequel. And YA lovers, you won't want to miss out on this excellent series.
