Welcome to my post for the Body Electric book tour! I have a review coming up, as well as a giveaway for a copy of The Body Electric, a set of the Across the Universe series, and an Across the Universe water bottle. But, first, allow me to introduce the book:

The Body Electric
Release date: October 6, 2014
Publisher: Scripturient Books
Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Romance

The future world is at peace.

Ella Shepherd has dedicated her life to using her unique gift—the ability to enter people’s dreams and memories using technology developed by her mother—to help others relive their happy memories.

But not all is at it seems.

Ella starts seeing impossible things—images of her dead father, warnings of who she cannot trust. Her government recruits her to spy on a rebel group, using her ability to experience—and influence—the memories of traitors. But the leader of the rebels claims they used to be in love—even though Ella’s never met him before in her life. Which can only mean one thing…

Someone’s altered her memory.

Ella’s gift is enough to overthrow a corrupt government or crush a growing rebel group. She is the key to stopping a war she didn’t even know was happening. But if someone else has been inside Ella’s head, she cannot trust her own memories, thoughts, or feelings.

My Rating: 5 Roses

Where do I even start with this book? Well, let me begin by saying I had very high expectations for this book because I read the Across the Universe series and it's one of my all time favorites. I was hoping to get the same level of epic from this book. And, I certainly wasn't disappointed! The Body Electric was packed with secrets, thrills, betrayals, and super sweet romance. It was a top-notch YA read and I absolutely loved it!

Ella definitely had her world turned upside down over the course of the story. But, she never faltered and refused to let anything take down her or her loved ones. She was clever enough both to reserve judgement and allow her previous judgments to be changed when new evidence came to light. I thought she was a wonderful character and I really liked her.

Jack (the rebel leader) was perfection. He truly believed in quietly changing the world and refused to contemplate hurting innocent people, even though other people certainly urged him to do so. He was as smart and Ella and always believed in her, even when some very surprising things came to light. He was definitely a swoon-worthy hero and I adored him.

The romance was delightful. It wasn't overwhelming, since Ella and Jack had much more immediate things to worry about, but it definitely added a sweet element to the thrilling story. Ella and Jack were perfect together and I loved them as a couple.

The plot was brilliant. It had me hooked from page 1 and didn't stop for a single moment. There was plenty of action that kept me on the edge of my seat and the secrets in this book were definitely unexpected. They were secrets that totally changed the game for the characters and they came with betrayals that took me by surprise. I absolutely loved the story and the ending was perfect.

The Body Electric was a brilliant YA read that I loved from start to finish. It had everything needed to make a great book: action, secrets, betrayals, and a bit of romance. YA lovers, this is a book you won't want to miss.

  1. Great review, Farrah! This sounds like a great sci-fi read and I'm actually happy to hear the romance is kept on the DL. I hate a great plot that gets pushed aside to focus on romance. The characters in this sound especially awesome, though! I already loive the sounds of the Jack fella!!
