Two Days of Temptation by Evie North Review @samhainpub

Two Days of Temptation (The Brothers Mortmain, #2)
Release date: December 2, 2014
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Genre: Historical (Regency) Romance
Series: The Brothers Mortmain #2

Who’s to say who is blind…and who sees clearly?

As Hannah approaches the imposing gates of Youlden Manor, she keeps reminding herself of why she is about to give her body to the master of the house. Two years ago, Lord Sebastian Youlden wronged her and their unborn child, and she cannot resume her life until she wreaks revenge.

When Sebastian awoke weeks after a duel that stole his sight, he discovered he’d lost something else—the woman he loved. Grief-stricken, he retreated to his isolated estate, where he occasionally sends for women from the local inn to temporarily assuage his loneliness. Yet there is something strangely compelling about the latest lady of the night who comes to pleasure him.

The first time they come together, Hannah’s icy resolve begins to melt in the heat of his bed. As passion begins to burn away the veil of secrecy between them—and gradually lift the blindness from Sebastian’s eyes—the only thing left standing between them and a love that never died is the naked, painful truth.

Warning: Rather a goodly amount of hot, satisfying sex between a lonely man and the woman he never forgot.

My Rating: 3 Roses

A sweet second-chance romance, Two Days of Temptation was an enjoyable read.

The Heart of the Phoenix by Barbara Bettis

Release date: September 3, 2014
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Genre: Historical (Medieval) Romance

Memories

Lady Evelynn’s childhood hero is home—bitter, hard, tempting as sin. And haunted by secrets. A now-grown Evie offers friendship, but Sir Stephen's cruel rejection crushes her, and she resolves to forget him. Yet when an unexpected war throws them together, she finds love isn’t so easy to dismiss. If only the king hadn’t betrothed her to another.

Can be cruel

Sir Stephen lives a double life while he seeks the treacherous outlaws who murdered his friends. Driven by revenge, he thinks his heart is closed to love. His childhood shadow, Lady Evie, unexpectedly challenges that belief. He rebuffs her, but he can’t forget her, although he knows she’s to wed the king’s favorite.

And deadly

When his drive for vengeance leads to Evie’s kidnapping, Stephen must choose between retribution and the love he’s denied too long. Surely King John will see reason.

Convict the murderers; convince the king. Simple. Until a startling revelation threatens everything.

My Rating: 2 Roses

An okay romance, though not the best, The Heart of the Phoenix was a nice read. There were some flaws but it was a good read overall.

Dare to Love by @AlleighBurrows Review @KensingtonBooks

Release date: December 1, 2014
Publisher: Kensington Books
Genre: Historical (Regency) Romance

Nivea is determined to convince Lord Landis love and betrayal are not synonymous. The only tangible benefit Dare Landis has of finally claiming the title of Marquis of Raynsforth will be that the current marquis has finally gone to the Devil where he belongs. Until then, Lord Landis will continue to enjoy life on his own terms as a heartless rake who s beholden to no one.

Nivea Horsham knows there s more to Dare than he reveals to the world. She s loved him since her older brother brought his ridiculously handsome friend home from school all those years ago. But getting him to notice her has proven to be an impossible endeavor.

Is it possible for Nivea to shatter Dare's carefully crafted facade and show him how to love?

My Rating: 5 Roses

A wonderfully romantic, sweetly emotional historical romance, Dare to Love was a brilliant read that I absolutely loved. I expected a standard rake/wallflower romance going into it, but it turned out to be more than that and I really enjoyed it.

Penelope knows her future—and their friendship—is in her hands, but is she willing to take the biggest risk of all on the man she loves?

If it were up to Ethan, life and love would be as predictable as the figures in his ledgers—certainly nothing like the adventures Penelope longs for. Ethan knows he must save Penelope and her reputation … but can he save himself from the temptation of her lips?

A Christmas Reunion by @susannafraser Review @CarinaPress

A Christmas Reunion
Release date: November 24, 2014
Publisher: Carina Press
Genre: Historical (Regency)/Holiday Romance

Gabriel Shephard has never forgotten his humble origins. So when he discovers a war orphan at Christmastime, he resolves to find a home for her—even if that means asking help from the very family who found and raised him, only to cast him out for daring to love the wrong woman.

Lady Catherine Trevilan has spent five years poring over the British Army's casualty list, dreading the day she sees Gabe's name. She's never forgotten him, and she's never forgiven herself for not running away with him when she had the chance, though she's agreed to a marriage of convenience with a more suitable man.

When Gabe returns home on Christmas leave just days before Cat's wedding, a forbidden kiss confirms their feelings haven't been dimmed by distance or time. But Cat is honor-bound to another, and Gabe believes she deserves better than a penniless soldier with an orphan in tow. How can Cat reconcile love and duty? She must convince Gabe she'd rather have him than the richest lord in all of England…

My Rating: 3 Roses

A nice, sweet holiday romance novella, A Christmas Reunion was a good read. Not the best or the most memorable, but an enjoyable way to pass the time.
