White Hot Kiss Release Day Launch: Review + Excerpt + Giveaway!

Welcome to my post for the White Hot Kiss release day launch! I have a review of this fabulous book coming up, as well as an excerpt and a giveaway for a prize pack that includes a Harlequin Teen tote and some amazing book. But, before we get to all that, allow me to introduce the book:

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements, #1)
Release date: February 25, 2014
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Series: The Dark Elements #1

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My Rating: 5 Roses

A dark and lovely romance, White Hot Kiss was a fantastic YA read. I totally loved this book. It drew me in from page 1 and kept me hooked from there. From the romance, to the surprises in store, this book was brilliant.

Layla was a wonderful heroine. She didn't really have a place, because she was part Warden and part demon and those two species hated each other. But, she refused to mope about it and did her best to follow what she thought was right. I really liked her. She was strong, determined, and she definitely proved herself as a heroine. I thought she was great.

There is a love triangle in this book, but it wasn't one of those obnoxious ones that get annoying. This one was well done, because it was always clear where everyone's feelings lay. I liked both of the guys, but I definitely knew who I wanted Layla to end up with. The romance was lovely. I won't say who it was with, but it was sweet, with some sizzle, and I definitely liked who ended up together. But, after that ending, we'll have to see where it goes...

Zayne was a sweetie. He was very devoted to Layla and did everything he could to keep her safe. He was a genuinely nice guy who only wanted the best for Layla and I thought that was adorable. I really liked him.

Roth was also great. He might be a demon, but he wasn't evil. In fact, he could be very sweet. I loved how he would literally do anything for Layla, even face what he feared most. He was wonderful and I adored him.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were some secrets revealed along the way that I never saw coming and a ton of thrills that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was horribly amazing. It ripped out my heart, while simultaneously giving me hope and leaving me desperate to read what happens next. I need book 2 ASAP!

White Hot Kiss was a brilliant YA paranormal romance. I absolutely loved this book. It was thrilling, romantic, and full of secrets that blew me away. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from this series. Romance lovers, this book is not to be missed.

“I don’t think of Zayne that way!”

She laughed. “What man-parts-loving female in this world doesn’t think of Zayne that way? I can barely keep myself breathing when I see him. All the guys in school have squishy waists. I can tell Zayne doesn’t. He’s the awesome sauce with extra sauce.”

That he was and he so didn’t have a squishy waist, but I tuned Stacey out at that point. I really did need to cram for this test and I also didn’t want my fantasies involving Zayne to occupy my mind right now. Especially after I’d woken up this morning, carefully tucked under the covers. The bed had smelled like him: sandalwood and crisp linen.

“Oh, sweet baby Jesus in a manger,” Stacey murmured.

I clenched my jaw, cupping my hands over my ears.

She jabbed me in the side with her elbow. At this rate I’d be covered in bruises before lunchtime. “Our bio class just got a billion times more interesting. And hotter, lots and lots hotter. Holy mother, I want to have his babies. Not now of course, but definitely later. But I’d like to start practicing soon.”

The cell wall is a thick and rigid layer covering the plasma something, something plant cells…

Stacey stiffened all of a sudden. “Oh my God, he’s coming—”

Composed of fat and sugar—

Something slender and shiny fell from who knew where, landing in the middle of Sam’s notes. Blinking tightly, it took me a couple of seconds to recognize the faded and half peeled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sticker covering the back of the silver cell phone.

My heart slammed against my ribs. Gripping the edges of the notebook, I slowly lifted my gaze. Unnaturally beautiful golden eyes met mine.

“You forgot this last night.”

Up for grabs is a Harlequin tote, filled with a pair of Harlequin socks and several books that include The Iron Traitor, Pawn, Crash into You, Through the Zombie Glass, and White Hot Kiss. Full details on the rafflecopter. Open INT.
