Desperately Seeking Suzanna (Tricks of the Ton, #2)
Release date: March 4, 2014
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Genre: Historical (Regency) Romance
Series: Tricks of the Ton #2

Holden Ellis, Lord Steelings is a charming rake and the life of every party. He always has a joke to tell and a smile on his face, only his jovial nature is hiding something that would tear his life apart—a distasteful family secret. If London society knew of his mentally ill mother and father hidden away in the country, he wouldn’t be welcome at a single ton event.

Sue Greene has never been noticed. As the older sister of an exotic beauty, she’s spent her life being pushed to the side. Therefore, when she has the chance to invent a lady named Suzanna and attend a masquerade ball for one night, she seizes the opportunity. If she had only known donning that mask would change her life… For, at the ball she meets Holden.

Holden and Suzanna have an enchanted evening together, but when the woman of his dreams disappears, Holden is determined to find her. He tracks her through ballrooms across London, always finding Sue in her place. Disappointed, he tries to pry information from Sue about her friend, which she deflects and side steps at every turn, all the while falling more and more for this man who is constantly in her path. As their friendship grows into something deeper, Sue realizes she is worthy of more than her mediocre existence in the shadow of her sister—maybe even love. But, by the time Holden discovers Sue is the Suzanna he’s been searching for, Sue falls into the hands of a murderer.

With Sue’s life in danger, will Holden choose to tell his friends of his family secret to gain their help? Or will he risk losing her all over again?

My Rating: 5 Roses

A sweet, fun romance, Desperately Seeking Suzanna was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed reading it. I absolutely loved this book!

Sue was a lovely heroine. Her family is very critical of her, but she refused to let them keep her down. She was strong and, as the book went on, learned to live for herself. And she was a truly kind character, even in the face of extreme obliviousness (I'm looking at you, Holden). I really liked her. She was a wonderful character.

Holden was amazing. He was a bit blind to what was right in front of him, but he was clever enough to figure it out once he actually stopped to take a second look. He was very sweet and charming and determined to protect those he loved. I adored him. I thought he was great.

The romance was lovely. Sue and Holden were very sweet together. Even during the identity confusion, it was always obvious that they had feelings for each other. These two were a mostly sweet couple, but there was definitely some spice there as well. The attraction between them was sizzling from the moment they met.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were some thrills along the way, courtesy of Holden's....troubled mother. I really enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was lovely. With the first two books in this series having turned out so well, I can't wait to read more from it.

Desperately Seeking Suzanna was a brilliant historical romance. I totally loved this book. It was a truly enjoyable read. Romance lovers, you definitely need to read this book.
