Feature and Follow #4

Feature and Follow-a great way to *meet* new blogging buddies and gain new followers! F&F hosted by Parajunkee andAlison Can Read

Q: What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book?
Ooh, that one is difficult! Let's see...my current favorite book is Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers. So, the first thing I would do would be to go the the Abbey of Saint Mortain and learn to be a total bad ass assassin like Ismae. Then, I would do my best to steal Duval from her ;)

So, what about you? What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book?

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abé + Featured Freebie

The Sweetest Dark
“With every fiber of my being, I yearned to be normal. To glide through my days at Iverson without incident. But I’d have to face the fact that my life was about to unfold in a very, very different way than I’d ever envisioned. Normal would become forever out of reach.”

Lora Jones has always known that she’s different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora’s been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she’s far more than what she seems.

England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England’s southern coast. Iverson’s eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.

Jesse is the school’s groundskeeper—a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she’s only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.

Filled with lush atmosphere, thrilling romance, and ancient magic, The Sweetest Dark brilliantly captures a rich historical era while unfolding an enchanting love story that defies time.

My Rating: 5/5

Oh my goodness! This book is fantastic, marvelous, wonderful, earth-shattering, brilliant! If I could give it a million/5, I would. I LOVED The Sweetest Dark so much!

Today, I have a historical romance that looks intriguing: Her Lord and Protector by Pam Roller. Go forth and get it for free!
Her Lord and Protector (formerly titled On Silent Wings)

Destitute and voiceless, a jilted bride living under the guardianship of an aloof man who may have murdered his wife wonders if it’s her heart, or her life, that hangs in the balance.

His is a heart of iron...
Embittered lord Alexander Fletcher must shelter a penniless mute in his ancestral home, Drayton castle. Although he makes no pretense he resents the intrusion, the woman stirs his heart into an unwelcome gallop. He wants only to be alone and not to love another woman who, like his wife, might grow to hate him so much she will take her own life.

And she is slowly melting it...
Lord Drayton's detachment only adds to Katherine Seymour’s distress of losing her voice. But after he gives her a searing kiss just before he introduces the husband he's chosen for her—and whom she promptly refuses—she discovers his horrid secret.

But someone is watching.
Only Agnes Cooke knows how Alex's insane wife died, and she will not hesitate to kill again in order to be the next Lady Drayton. Watching Alex go out of his way to help Katherine regain her voice, however, is more than she can take. This plan will require more than just laudanum and mercury....

Surprising Lord Jack by Sally MacKenzie + Featured Freebie

Surprising Lord Jack (Duchess of Love, #2)Unladylike Behavior

Frances Hadley has managed her family’s estate for years. So why can’t she request her own dowry? She’ll have to go to London herself and knock some sense into the men interfering in her life. With the nonsense she’s dealt with lately, though, there’s no way she’s going as a woman. A pair of breeches and a quick chop of her red curls, and she’ll have much less to worry about…

Jack Valentine, third son of the famous Duchess of Love, is through being pursued by pushy young ladies. One particularly determined miss has run him out of his own house party. Luckily the inn has one bed left—Jack just has to share with a rather entertaining red-headed youth. Perhaps the two of them should ride to London together. It will make a pleasant escape from his mother’s matchmaking melodrama!

My Rating: 3/5

A cute and sweet book, but it had it's problems. It was really just one major issue, but that issue really kept me from liking this book as much as I could have...

Featured and Follow #3

Feature and Follow-a great way to *meet* new blogging buddies and gain new followers! It is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read

Q: What is the last book that kept you up late in the night to finish it?
That's an easy one: Shades of Earth by Beth Revis. If you don't know about it, it's the last book in the Across the Universe Trilogy. I was anxious to find out what happened and there was no way that a trifling matter such as sleep was going to tear me away from it ;)
And it didn't help that Shades of Earth was one of the best conclusions I've ever read.

So, what is the last book that kept you up late?

And Then She Fell by Stephanie Laurens + Featured Freebie

And Then She Fell
The only thing more troublesome than a Cynster man...is a Cynster lady who belives love is not her destiny. Famously known in London society as "The Matchbreaker," Henrietta Cynster's uncanny skill lies in preventing ill-fated nuptials - not in falling victim to Cupid's spell.

But then she distrupts one match too many and feels honor-bound to assist dashing James Glossup in finding a suitable bride for a marriage of convenience.

A task infernally complicated by the undeniable, unquenchable attraction that flares between James and Henrietta, who continues to believe she will never fall...

My Rating: 4/5

A wonderful romance! And Then She Fell was a sweet, lovely historical romance that I really enjoyed.

Q:Who is your favorite villain from a book?
That's a tough one...
I'd have to say Luke from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Although he's he villain until the last couple of chapters of the last book, I could never truly dislike him. He was such a sympathetic character that I understood why he wanted to destroy the entire world. Overreaction? Yes. But, understandable? Also, yes. He was just a really complex character and I really enjoyed reading about him. And he was also very good-looking. Just saying :)

So, who is your favorite villain?

I Only Have Eyes for You (The Sullivans #4) by Bella Andre + Giveaway Info and Brief Note on Plagiarism

Before I get started, I have a quick note to make about plagiarism. Recently, I found out that another blogger-whose name will remain undisclosed-has used my review of Entangled by Nikki Jefford and taken credit, along with reviews from other bloggers. Now, this was quite upsetting. Why would anyone think that they had the right to take MY words and MY work and try to take credit for it? This is not okay.  It was not only once, but occurred several times with several different bloggers. To the blogger who did this, you know who you are. Please take down the review or at least attribute it to me, as well as the other plagiarized reviews. Thank you.

Now, moving on to a happier note...

I Only Have Eyes for You (The Sullivans, #4)
Sophie Sullivan, a librarian in San Francisco, was five years old when she fell head over heels in love with Jake McCann. Twenty years later, she's convinced the notorious bad boy still sees her as the "nice" Sullivan twin. That is, when he bothers to look at her at all. But when they both get caught up in the magic of the first Sullivan wedding, she knows it's long past time to do whatever it takes to make him see her for who she truly is...the woman who will love him forever.

Jake has always been a magnet for women, especially since his Irish pubs made him extremely wealthy. But the only woman he really wants is the one he can never have. Not only is Sophie his best friend's off-limits younger sister...he can't risk letting her get close enough to discover his deeply hidden secret.

Only, when Sophie appears on his doorstep as Jake's every fantasy come to life-smart, beautiful, and shockingly sexy-he doesn't have a prayer of taking his eyes, or his hands, off her. And he can't stop craving more of her sweet smiles and sinful kisses. Because even though Jake knows loving Sophie isn't the right thing to do...how can he possibly resist?

My Rating: 4/5

Feature and Follow Friday

Feature & Follow is a weekly post hosted by Parajunkee's View andAlison Can Read.

"Increase blog followers, gain book blog followers, and make new friends with the book blogger Feature & Follow."

This week's question is:

Q. If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exist what would it be and why?
If I had to choose, and this is a very difficult choice, I would say that I wanted faeries to exist. Why? Because they embody all that is fantastical, the good and the bad. They were created by dreams, so they essentially are the stuff of dreams-both the nightmarish and the brilliant. Though, yes, that means creatures from nightmares would truly exist, so would creatures from the best of dreams. And who wouldn't want to see their dream become reality? Personally, I think that would be awesome.

Thanks for coming! So, what supernatural creature would you want to really exist? Let me know in the comments and remember to follow me!

Still learning how to process the onslaught of her new feelings, the sights and sounds of Freetown are overwhelming and strange. There are a hundred differences between her old home and her new one, but one thing remains starkly similar: the matches. Yet where the blood in the Sanctuary landed only on the colosseum floor, Kit will quickly learn that a river of red runs through Freetown’s very streets.

Freed from the oppression of a society who stole her right to feel, the true horror of her old life leaves Kit wondering if she really has been freed at all. Would she be better off without the crippling horror of all the blood on her hands, or is the love of one boy worth living through all the pain?

Raksha is the call of the dead. It is the rumbling chant for fresh blood from the other side, the demand for sacrifice. The colosseum is behind Kit. The fighting pits await.

The Rules by Stacey Kade + Featured Freebie

The Rules (Project Paper Doll, #1)
1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans in a small Wisconsin town, to hide in plain sight at her high school from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…

My Rating: 5/5

An absolutely spectacular book! Just brilliant! The Rules is a fantastic paranormal romance...
