Alienated by Melissa Landers

Alienated (Alienated, #1)
Release date: February 4, 2014
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Genre: YA Paranormal (Alien) Romance
Series: Alienated #1

Interplanetary relations have never been more exciting! The first in a funny, romantic YA sci-fi series.

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

My Rating: 5 Roses

I love this book! I don't even think I have the words to say how amazing this book is, but I'll try. Romance, secrets, betrayals, coups, surprises. Alienated had all of that and more. It was amazing, fantastic, an absolutely brilliant read! I LOVED THIS BOOK!

I loved the idea for this book. Interplanetary exchange student? That sounds pretty freakin' awesome. And, it turned out to be even better than I expected. It was unique, original, and just wonderful. I said it before, but I'll say it again: I loved this book!

Cara was a fantastic heroine. She is extremely motivated, determined, and clever. And, when she believes in something, she won't give up on it. Even if there are angry mobs after her. I really liked her. She was a heroine that was fun to read about, worthy of her role, and easy to like. I thought she was wonderful. She's definitely on my list of favorite heroines.

Aelyx was also brilliant. He goes through a lot of change in this book. He starts off cold, rigid, superior, and human-hating. Over the course of the book, he breaks loose of that and becomes a truly great YA hero. Seeing that transformation was tons of fun. And, he was amazing. He was so sweet and determined to do what he thought was right, even if it didn't seem like it sometimes. And, it was so fun seeing him figure out how Earth works. His reactions and fumbles had me laughing out loud a few times. He was a perfectly flawed hero and I adored him. Like Cara, he's definitely on my list of favorites.

The romance was perfectly done. It progressed realistically as Cara and Aelyx let go of the distrust between their respective species. It was so sweet and I loved seeing them fall for each other. And, there were some seriously swoon-worthy moments. Like the part where Aelyx showed Cara the L'eihr version of a kiss. Wow. Who knew barely touching could be so hot? They were a brilliant couple. I can't wait to see how they defy the odds to stay together in the next book.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were plenty of secrets and betrayals that kept me on the edge of my seat. The truth of why the L’eihrs wanted the alliance was a surprise. It definitely upped the stakes because, while neither species liked or trusted the other, both of their survivals depended on the alliance. It definitely has me anxious to see how the treaty will play out with so much at stake for everyone. Because, at the end of this book, things were looking bad. But, we'll see. I really enjoyed the story and the ending has me dying for book 2. I can't wait to read more from this series because it's off to a brilliant start.

Alienated was an absolutely magnificent read. I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was thrilling, romantic, and full of surprises. It was out-of-this-world brilliant (pardon the pun :) I just couldn't help myself). I loved every bit of it. YA lovers, and anyone else who wants a fantastic book, you have to read this.

*I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

"The fact that you purchased an inferior gift hardly seems like any failing on my part. It's common knowledge that shiny rocks are preferred among human females." -Aelyx

"'Huh?' Cara spun around with a belt in one hand and a skirt in the other. 'How does he look at me?'
Tori raised a black brow. Then she made a circle with one hand and stuck her index finger through it in an X-rated puppet show. 'Like he wants to dock his ship inside your spaceport'."
