My Rating: 5 Roses

I went into this book with high expectations. I read another of Wendy Vella's books, The Reluctant Countess, and absolutely loved it so I had hopes that this book would be the same. And it didn't disappoint! Duchess by Chance was an absolutely wonderful historical romance. It had sweet and steamy romance, thrills, and a vindictive old suitor. I completely and totally loved this book.

Eva was a wonderful  heroine. She was a strong character. She hasn't had the best life, with her awful family, but she learned how to hide from their cruelty and, when she got away, she didn't let her past keep her down. She became an even stronger person. I thought she was great and I really liked her.

Daniel was also wonderful. He came off as cold at first, but it wasn't long before we see more of him. Daniel resented his father, even more so when he found out on his father's deathbed that he is betrothed to a woman he's never met. So, that doesn't make him inclined to be warm to Eva. But, that doesn't last long. He was a good man at heart and it wasn't long before that part of him overtook any resentment he had to his marriage. He was so sweet and utterly devoted to protecting Eva. I thought he was wonderful and I adored him.

The romance was perfect. It was sweet, with how deeply these two fell for each other. And the chemistry was definitely there and very hot. Eva and Daniel were a lovely couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. The constant threat of Eva's old suitor, who refused to give up, kept me on the edge of my seat. And the ending was lovely.

Duchess by Chance was a lovely historical romance. I really enjoyed reading this book. Lovers of historical romance, you definitely need to give this book a read.

He’s annoyingly gorgeous, provocative, and fast becoming her best friend. But he also has a secret that makes the little hairs on her arms stand on end...

It wasn't nicking an expensive watch or diamond bracelet that landed streetwise Jona Montiniere in the clutches of the police. It was a darn sweater. A judge decides that she has to return to her terminally ill mother, that god-awful dragon, who dumped her in an orphanage more than twelve years ago. Worse, for the coming six weeks, she has to do charity work on a strange aunt’s vineyards in France.

Yeah, right. Jona is determined to sneak off at the first chance she gets. But there’s still Julian, the dragon’s caretaker. Playful, understanding, and sinfully sexy, he’s everything she dreams of—but she’d be damned if she let him know and break through her stonewall of protection. And then he awakens her mother from the dead with a simple touch…
