The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken + Featured Freebie

The Bet
"I have a proposition for you."

Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they're engaged for her sake-so be it.

But Kacey wasn't counting on Jake's older brother Travis still being there. She calls him "Satan" for a reason: she's never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake's deal . . .

My Rating: 5 Roses

Cute, sweet, and an absolutely lovely read. I loved this book! The Bet was a wonderful read. Seriously, anyone who loves New Adult needs to read this book.

Anyone who has read my reviews enough knows that I adored a childhood friends to lovers theme and that it's my favorite romance story line. This book did it in an unusual way. Instead of childhood friends, it was childhood enemies. And, if that wasn't enough, throw in a brother. It took the simple story line and turned it into something much more. And I thought it was brilliantly done.

Kacey was a heroine that was easy to relate to. She was realistic and very likable. Occasionally misguided where Travis and Jake were concerned. But, otherwise a lovely character.

Travis was ah-mazing. He was so sweet! Even when he and Kacey were tormenting each other, he was in love with her. From puppy love from when they were younger, to a crush, to full on love. It was absolutely adorable. And, as the book went on, we see how much he actually did for her, without her knowing. The Christmas present, her parent's restaurant (you'll know what I mean if you read the book). He did so many things for her just to make her happy. I adored him. He was just perfect.

The romance was fairly clean. There was definitely heat, but it was on the lighter side. Even so, the chemistry between Kacey and Travis was immediately obvious. And they were a very sweet couple. With Travis having been in love with Kacey for so long and Kacey finally realizing what has been there the whole time, it was enough to make your heart melt. Definitely a lovely couple.

I'm going to mention Jake real quick. We get his point of view during the book and he comes off as both a total ass and nice when he wants to be. He was an interesting character. I believe there is a sequel about him, The Wager. Can't wait to see how things work out for him.

The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. I just loved the story. It was utterly adorable. And the ending was perfect.

The Bet was a fantastic New Adult romance. I ADORED this book! Lovers of the genre, you definitely have to read this book.
