Nefertiti's Heart by A.W. Exley + Featured Freebie

Nefertiti's HeartCara Devon has always suffered curiosity and impetuousness, but tangling with a serial killer might cure that. Permanently.
London, 1861. Impoverished noble Cara has a simple mission after the strange death of her father - sell off his damned collection of priceless artifacts. Her plan goes awry when aristocratic beauties start dying of broken hearts, an eight inch long brass key hammered through their chests. A killer hunts amongst the nobility, searching for a regal beauty and an ancient Egyptian relic rumored to hold the key to immortality.

Her Majesty’s Enforcers are in pursuit of the murderer and they see a connection between the gruesome deaths and Cara. So does she, somewhere in London her father hid Nefertiti’s Heart, a fist sized diamond with strange mechanical workings. Adding further complication to her life, notorious crime lord, Viscount Nathaniel Lyons is relentless in his desire to lay his hands on Cara and the priceless artifact. If only she could figure out his motive.

Self-preservation fuels Cara's search for the gem. In a society where everyone wears a mask to hide their true intent, she needs to figure out who to trust, before she makes a fatal mistake.

My Rating: 5/5

Absolutely brilliant! I loved this book! Honestly, this is one of the best steampunk romances I've ever read. It was literally that good.

I LOVE Ancient Egypt and everything about it, so Nefertiti's Heart already had a lot going for it. And, as I read it, it only got better. I loved the idea for this book. It was so good.

Cara was a wonderful heroine. She was so strong to go through what she did. And then to have society blame her for it and cast her out. The fact that she survived, thrived, despite her past was admirable. And she had the courage to face down her past. She has learned to protect herself. This girl not only know how to fight hand to hand combat like a pro, but she also never goes anywhere without at least two pistols. She was also very clever. And, I liked how the author had her move on from her past. She didn't get over it too quickly to be realistic. She slowly moved on, with the help of Nate. It was believable. Honestly, I loved everything about her. She is officially one of my favorite heroines.

Nate, the Viscount of Lyons, was equally amazing. If anyone could match Cara, it was Nate. He was clever, determined, strong, and ruthless when he needed to be. His title is very appropriate, because this man was as dangerous as a lion. But he was also so sweet and kind. He was so gentle with Cara as she moved on from her past. He had me falling for him right away.

I LOVED Cara and Nate together. They were a great couple. Their relationship grew slowly and realistically. There were sparks flying immediately and it got HOT. In the book, there was a description of their relationship that I really liked: the tiger and the lion. Both very strong and a force to be reckoned with, especially when put together. But they were honestly sweet together.

The plot takes off at a run and doesn't stop from there. There were surprises, secrets, and plenty of thrills as Cara and Nate dealt with a serial murderer while looking for Nefertiti's Heart. There were some twists that made my jaw drop. I had suspicions about who the murderer was earlier, but I didn't know for sure until literally 2 pages before it was revealed, so this definitely wasn't a predictable book. The ending provided a nice wrap up and it could have stood alone. But, thankfully, there will be more. A second book is being released called Hatshepsut's Collar. I'm SO excited for it!

I loved everything about this book. It was perfect. Literally everything was perfection. If you like steampunk, romance, mystery, thrills, or any combination of those, you HAVE to read this book. Loved it, loved it, loved it!
