Featured Freebie

I'm super busy today, so I only have time to post a featured freebie. I'll be back to posting reviews tomorrow :)
Today, I have a cute holiday anthology: Karen Hall's Historical Romance Christmas Anthology. Go forth and get it for free!
Karen Hall's Christmas Historical Romance Anthology

Christmas Stockings: Holly Chamberlain can write love letters for others, but no decent young lady would dare write one for herself. So when her secret beloved, Grayson Clark, vicar at St. Martin in the Pines, arrives at her office with a request to write love letters for a shy friend, she suspects he is actually the friend and the letters are to the granddaughter of a baronet known to admire him. His request for her to replace an injured cast member of St. Martin's production of A Christmas Carol delights her, but the baronet's granddaughter is also in the cast, dashing any hopes Holly has for her own Christmas love story.

Grayson Clark can speak eloquently from the pulpit, but not to Holly Chamberlain, the woman he secretly loves. After all, he's just a vicar while she is the daughter of one of London's wealthiest merchants and known to be admired by an up and coming barrister. Dictating his own love letters to her may be folly but what else can he do? Having her join the cast of A Christmas Carol seemed like a miracle, but now his predecessor is insisting Grayson be attentive to a baronet's granddaughter in order to pay for St. Martin's new roof. Can't vicars have their own happily-ever afters?
After all, it's Christmas.

Set against a backdrop of late Victorian London, and a production of Charles' Dickens beloved, A Christmas Carol, Christmas Stockings brings together two people who are only shy when they are together, and whose fondest wish is about to be granted-and they don't even have to use mistletoe!

The Christmas Proposal: 'Tis the season for matrimony, or so it seems for Aunt Tilda who is intent upon finding a suitor for her young niece Cassandra Barnwell, heiress to Barnwell's Confectionary. Cassandra, a young woman with ideas of her own hatches a clever plan to resist her aunt's efforts but that plan goes awry when young Lord Brandon becomes more than an accessory to her efforts.
An Edwardian era love story that offers the reader a very merry Christmas.

The Comet that Came for Christmas: Christmas is a magical time. For former sweethearts Victoria Hawthorne and Jake Dillon, their unexpected reunion is anything but that. Their paths cross again when Jake and his millionaire employer visit Victoria's hometown of Tyler, Tennessee before opening a Haley's Emporium there and stay in Victoria's home. Their old attraction flares again but both know Jake isn't staying for long. But when his boss tumbles down some icy stairs injuring his back, and an approaching snowstorm threatens to bury the town, Jake and Victoria are stuck together, forcing them to look at their pasts and into their hearts to see if they have a second chance. And with a legendary comet possibly headed their way, one that has always brought Jake's boss good luck, how can they not have a happily-ever-after?

During their annual Christmas pilgrimage to Scotland to visit their aged uncle in his decrepit castle, the Comte de Rocheforte and his cousin, Earl of Oakley, are presented with unique gifts: their uncle has raided an English lord's Christmas party and kidnapped four lovely would-be brides for his heirs to choose from ...as well as one very angry duke, Lord Bretton. As snow isolates the castle, and as hours grow into days, the most honourable intentions give away to temptations as surprising as they are irresistible.

My Rating: 5/5

Three of the greatest authors in historical romance team up to write this absolutely fantastic book. The Lady Most Willing was adorable, a brilliant novel of three stories.

Waking Up with a Rake (The Royal Rakes #1) by Mia Marlowe + Featured Freebie

Waking Up with a Rake (The Royal Rakes, #1)
The race is on in this sexy new Regency series. To prevent three dukes from shoving their way into the royal line, the monarchy will dangle the ton's most notorious rakes before the dukes' intended brides. They'll cause a scandal, then call off any plans of matrimony. But just who will have the last laugh?

Rhys plans the seduction of Olivia like the cavalry officer he was, but when a series of mishaps convinces him that someone wants to get rid of her--permanently--he becomes her fiercest protector...even at the cost of his own heart.

My rating: 5/5

Waking Up with a Rake is definitely a HOT book. It's full of sweet romance, explosive passion, and a few shocking twists. Romance lovers, you've found a book that you'll adore.

The very idea of this book-and the continuing series-is a delightful one. Tempting ladies to create a scandal with London's most wicked men; it already sounds like a winner, doesn't it? And it met every one of my expectations.

I really sympathized with Olivia. Despite the fact that she was going with her mother's plan to avoid disappointing her parents, she never seemed weak-willed. She dealt with the forced situation with dignity and a firm eye on how to get out of it. And later, when the suspicious accidents began, she handled them bravely, proving herself as a heroine. She toughed out all the craziness going on, from Rhys' presence to the possible murderer. Really a lovely heroine.

Rhys was a little more complicated. Though he is trying to do something that seems wrong, ruing a woman's reputation, he's doing it for the right reasons: to protect his family. So, it never really bothered me that he was trying to ruin Olivia because we found out why he does it in the first chapter. When the accidents started, Rhys was determined to protect Olivia immediately and it eventually overtook his original mission to ruin her. He proved to be the perfect man. Clever, sweet, and determined to protect those he loved. The romance between Olivia and Rhys was HOT. There were always sparks flying out whenever they were together. So to the lovers of that kind of romance, you'll have your fill. And those who prefer a sweet romance, their relationship was sweet as sugar as well.

There were a few surprises along the way, not the least of which is why someone would be seeking to hurt a random lady. I kind of expected who it turned out to be. Not in a way that the plot was overly predictable, but more that the author plants those seeds of suspicion early on. The ending was lovely. I'm excited to see what comes next with the other two rakes :)

I would recommend Waking Up with a Rake to any romance lover. It was a marvelous read.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy!

The Secret Life of Lady Lucinda by Sophie Barnes + GIVEAWAY

The Secret Life of Lady Lucinda (Summersby, #3)
William finally meets his match in the latest Summersby Tale from Sophie Barnes, author of How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back.

Lucy Blackwell is desperate, reckless, and maybe a little bit crazy. That's the only possible explanation for tricking a man she doesn't know into a dance, a kiss, and an engagement—all in the middle of the biggest ball of the year! But Lord William Summersby is the final piece of her grand plan, and she'll do what it takes to make this marriage of convenience work—as long as it's convenient for her. She just never counted on falling in love . . .

The Secret Life of Lady Lucinda was a wonderful romance. Secrets, betrayals, and romance combine in this book to create a great read.

Lucinda was a very likable heroine. She has been through a lot and still manages to stay strong. Not only that, but she remains determined to fight back. During the time when William was angry with her for forcing him into marriage, she was understandably remorseful but still held her ground and refused to be a doormat. She wasn't the most memorable heroine, but she was lovely.

William was a sweetheart. He is SUCH a gentleman. Even when he's understandably angry with Lucinda, he still acts like a gentleman with her. He was intelligent, clever, resourceful, kind, protective; everything you could want in a hero.

The relationship between Lucinda and William obviously didn't start out well, with the forced marriage. But it slowly grew until they fell in love with one another and it was so sweet. They were an adorable couple. This book doesn't have a ton of spicy, just enough to add some zest. Their relationship was more sweet than spicy.

The story was fast paced. It wasn't particularly special, but it was a fun read. Never a dull moment and with a sweet ending.

The Secret Life of Lady Lucinda was a lovely historical romance. To any lovers of the genre, you should definitely read this.

The Scandalous, Dissolute, No-Good Mr. Wright by Tessa Dare + Featured Freebie

The Scandalous, Dissolute, No-Good Mr. Wright
Miss Eliza Cade is a lady in waiting. And waiting.

Because of a foolish mistake in her youth, she's not allowed "out" in Society until her three older sisters are wed. But while she's trying to be good, she keeps bumping elbows—and, more distressingly, lips—with notorious rake Harry Wright. Every moment she spends with him, she risks complete ruin.

The sensual passions he stirs in her are so wrong . . . but Eliza just can't resist Mr. Wright.

My rating: 5/5

Tessa Dare is a magnificent author, one of my favorites, and she's done it again. The Scandalous, Dissolute, No-Good Mr. Wright is a FANTASTIC book. I can't even tell you how much I adored it!

Eliza was a heroine with a lot of spirit. But it's been trapped because of a mistake made in her youth. However, when Mr. Wright shows up, it all comes bursting out. And seeing it happen was very entertaining. Eliza was wonderful, a heroine that anyone can love.

Harry was just as much fun. As with Eliza, he has a lot of spirit, though he's never had to hide it. Though he's originally shown as care-free and shallow, we get to see his other side soon after. He's sweet, kind, and just absolutely amazing. He's definitely on my list of favorite heroes.

The plot of this books spans a few years, from when Eliza and Harry first meet, to when they get their happily-ever after. It was so much fun to see their relationship slowly develop and grow. Despite the short length, the characterization still retains depth, not just for the main characters, but for the others as well.
And the ending was so sweet. It had me laughing and smiling and a little sad that such a lovely novella was over.

ANY romance lover should read this book. It is MAGNIFICENT!

The Goddess Inheritance by Aimee Carter + Featured Freebie

The Goddess Inheritance (Goddess Test, #3)
Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.

In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.

With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.

Even if it costs her eternity.

My rating: 4/5

So much occurred in The Goddess Inheritance that I'm still digesting everything, 2 days after reading the book. I'm still a little speechless, but I can say that this book was a wonderful end to a lovely series.

I had one issue with this book, so I'm going to get it out of the way first. Kate began the series as a strong character. That was the reason that I liked her so much. But during this book, she was a freaking watering pot. Maybe it was just the post pregnancy hormones, but she just burst into tears about everything. And a couple of characters in the book even mention it. Kate is usually strong; it really irritated me that she was being a baby and sobbing every few pages. By the end, she realizes how ridiculous she is being and toughens up. That helped, but I was still annoyed.

Now, let's get to the positive.

After pulling herself together, Kate proved how much she had grown throughout the series. At the end, I was able to see how strong and compassionate she had become. So, in the end, I admired her greatly.

Henry was such a sweetheart in this book; I swear, he made my heart melt. He was just SO adorable. And he grew as a character as well. He was able to move past everything that used to hold him back and become a true hero. I loved him anyway, but, because of that, now I love him even more.

Since the major bumps in their relationship were smoothed, Kate and Henry were such a lovely couple. They brought out the strength in each other and weathered through the possible apocalypse together. It was nice to see a relationship that had been put through so much to finally prosper.

Milo, Kate and Henry's son, was SO cute! Oh my goodness, I loved that little baby. I don't want to say too much about him so that I don't spoil anything, but he was so adorable. Even though, obviously, he doesn't directly play a role in the situation, he was a constant presence. His existence is what spurs Kate and Henry to fight with everything they have in them. And Henry was SUCH an adorable father. He so obviously adored his son, it was precious, especially because we know that he hasn't had that ever in his thousands of years long life. Kate was also a devoted parent. Even though she may not have planned on Milo, she was still a wonderful mother to him.

The other character also had their growth. All the other main gods and goddesses changed: Walter/Zeus, Ava/Aphrodite, Diana/Demeter, James/Hermes. So many dimensions were added to their character, that I began to feel like they were almost real people.

Someone dies in this book, and I won't say who. I'll let that torment you until you find out. But the emotional aspects of it were very well done. If I hadn't been almost asleep because I refused to go to bed until I finished the book, I probably would have cried.

The action in the book was constant-obviously, since they were in a war. The solution to the problem was very clever. I would never have thought about it. But it managed to bring in a certain aspect that seemed minor before into full play. The emotions in this book were palpable. The Goddess Inheritance brought in so much and that new baggage brought in so much more emotion.

The ending was perfect for the series. It was bittersweet. Happy because of the outcome of the war and the main relationship. But sad because of all that transpired during the war and all the emotion that was drawn up. And I had to say goodbye to all of the characters that I grew to care for throughout the series. Once again, emotional.

The Goddess Inheritance was a wonderful ending to the Goddess Test series. To all fans of these series, you will love the final book.

And, finally, farewell to all the beloved characters. I love you guys!

The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne by Jayne Fresina + Featured Freebie

The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne
By night Ellie Vyne fleeces unsuspecting aristocrats as the dashing Count de Bonneville. By day she avoids her sisters' matchmaking attempts and dreams up inventive insults to hurl at her childhood nemesis, the arrogant, far-too-handsome-for-his-own-good, James Hartley.

James finally has a lead on the villainous, thieving Count, tracking him to a shady inn. He bursts in on none other than "that Vyne woman..".in a shocking state of dishabille. Convinced she is the Count's mistress, James decides it's best to keep your enemies close. Very close. In fact, seducing Ellie will be the perfect bait...

I feel terrible to say this, but The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne was a disappointment. I really liked The Most Improper Miss Sophie Valentine, so I was hoping I would like this book as well. But it didn't turn out that way.

The good part about this book, before I go into the negatives, was the story itself. The plot was good. Not brilliant, but good. The ending was cute and left a smile on my face.

But, everything else didn't go too smoothly. For one thing, the pace was too slow. The plot tended to drag. And, obviously that makes for a dull book.

The biggest problem, however, was the main characters. Ellie and James. For some reason, I couldn't connect to them. I didn't dislike them, but I didn't like them either. I just couldn't get emotionally invested in them.

Ellie was the worst of the two. She tended to be mean-spirited.
For no justifiable reason, she would be mean to James. I know he was unkind to her in the past, but it was, like, ten years ago. Why is she still holding a youthful folly against him, even when he's trying to be nice? I just couldn't make myself feel sympathy for her, even with her messy past and less than perfect current situation. And obviously, not liking the heroine really put a damper on my enjoyment of the book.

James was a little better. He was charming and could be sweet. But, even so, I still couldn't connect with him. That was his issue. Despite all the things to recommend him, it was still difficult to connect with him. And the relationship between James and Ellie was passionate. But that passion tended to release in constant arguments between the two that became rather trying after a while.

The characters. That was the problem. I couldn't connect with them, so I couldn't enjoy the book. And I'm rather disappointed about that. I didn't hate this book. I didn't even dislike it. I just didn't particularly like it.

So, sorry, but: 2/5

Mia's Heart Release Day + Giveaway

I've reviewed Dante's Girl by Courtney Cole on Imagine a World and it was easy to say that I ADORED it. Now, book 2, Mia's Heart, has just been released! I can't tell you how awesome that book is. If you don't know about this book, here's the info:

My name is Mia Giannis.

I am seventeen years old.

I live in Valese, Caberra.

This has become my mantra and my lifeline, having recently lost my memory due to a scary natural disaster.
Yeah. I have amnesia. Messed up, right?
You don't know the half of it.
Not remembering anything has turned my world upside down. My parents try their hardest to “remind” me of who I was, but it doesn't feel right. Or, if what they're saying is true and that really was me, I'm not sure I like that person very much.
And then there’s my love life. Apparently, Gavin Ariastasis is my oldest and best friend in the world. Also, apparently, we’ve never dated. But now, noticing him for what feels like the first time, he’s making my heart do somersaults. He knows me inside and out—the real me. Plus, he’s sexy and charming as hell. Sounds perfect, right?
But then... there’s the new guy. Quinn McKeyen – tall, gorgeous and deliciously American. His mischievous grin and slow Midwestern drawl turn my insides to mush in two seconds flat making me question who I really am and what I really want.
Seriously. What am I supposed to do with all that?! I feel torn between them, but I barely even know who I am, let alone what I want.
I just hope my indecisive heart will clue me in. And sooner rather than later…before I lose what little of my mind that I have left.

Sounds great, doesn't it? If that doesn't have you interested, here's an exclusive excerpt:

“Would you like to dance?” I ask Quinn.
He stares at me hesitantly.
“What?” I cajole him. “The big brawny cowboy can ride a bull but can’t dance?”
And now he rolls his eyes.
“Is that a challenge?”
“Does it seem like a challenge?” I ask innocently.
He sighs and grabs my hand. “Come on, tiny tot.”
I smile victoriously as he leads me onto the polished dance floor. The crystal chandeliers sparkle above us and servers in black-tails and white gloves sail through the crowds with trays of champagne.
Quinn pulls me to him and we smoothly dance around the ball room floor. I look up at him.
“You’re a surprise,” I admit. “I figured you couldn’t dance.”
But then again, I figured he didn’t own a pair of dress shoes, either. He’s sexy as hell tonight in a tux and polished black loafers. What is it about a tuxedo that can make a boy go from handsome to movie star hot in two seconds flat? My heart flutters as Quinn grins at me crookedly.
And that’s another thing. My heart has been doing a lot of fluttering lately, mostly over this crooked grin of his.
“I can most certainly dance,” he tells me needlessly. And I say needlessly because he is demonstrating that fact right now. He can most certainly dance.
His arms feel really good wrapped around me. I almost sigh because this moment feels pretty perfect. The music is soft and soothing, Quinn is handsome and strong, and I am pressed against his strong chest. He smells delicious. I could go and on about why this moment rocks.
But unfortunately, it doesn’t keep rocking.
Because as I look up, I see Gavin. He is standing casually with Dante and Dimitri, with a champagne glass dangling loosely from his fingers at his side. He is the picture of casual elegance—as if tuxedos were invented to be worn by him. But I’m not distracted by how handsome he is. Because the look on his face startles me.
He’s upset.
 With me.
That is apparent. I stare into his dark eyes and he looks pointedly away. And he stays looking away. He doesn’t glance back at me. My stomach sinks like a rock.
“Is something wrong?” Quinn asks, as he stares down at me. I shake my head.
“No. I mean, yes. Maybe.”
He stares at me again, his blonde eyebrows furrowed as he tries to figure me out.
“I’ll be back, okay?”
He nods and releases my hand and I scamper through the crowd to get to Gavin. But when I reach the spot where he was, he isn’t there anymore.
“Mia!” I hear Reece call to me. I gaze around and find her in the crowd and she is gesturing wildly toward something behind me. I turn and see Gavin disappearing into a hall. I’m after him like a shot. I call out for him, but he doesn’t stop.
So, I do the only thing I can think of to do.
 I chase him.
I have no idea how he manages to stay so far ahead of me when I am running and he is walking. It’s like something out of a bad horror movie. I just can’t seem to catch up. I trip along in my heels until I finally get smart enough to take them off. And then I trip along after him barefoot.
But finally, he takes pity on me.
As he reaches a door that opens to the outdoors, he turns. He is tall and lithe and handsome and he doesn’t want to be with me. That much is apparent.
“What do you need, Mia?” And he sounds weary.
I’m confused.
“Why are you running from me?”
He smiles a small, tight smile.
“I’m not running. I’m walking. You’re short enough that you have to run to keep up.”
“Details,” I sniff. “Why wouldn’t you stop?”
“Because I don’t want to talk to you right now,” he answers simply. And that answer hurts. Because out of everyone in my life, Gavin has always been there for me.
“Why?” I ask softly.
“Because,” he shrugs. “I don’t want to right now.”
“But why?” I demand. “You have to have a reason.”
“Because I just realized something,” he says. And his voice is cool and his eyes are a bit sad. It makes me apprehensive and scared to ask. But of course I ask anyway.
“What did you realize?”
Gavin is quiet as he stares at me. And the serious and slightly sad expression on his face scares me because I have never seen it before.
“What?” I blurt out. “What is wrong with you? What did you realize?”
 Gavin sighs.
“I realized that you have never looked at me like you were looking at Quinn just now. And you probably never will.”

And, now that I have you properly excited about Mia's Heart, time for the giveaway! The prize is a signed copy of Dante's Girl, the first book in the Paradise Falls Series. Sorry, international fans, but this giveaway is open only to US/CAN
